Gurilândia was founded in 1960 in a small space, with few chairs, straw mats on the floor, in a cozy ambiance and, what’s most important, filled with people commited with education and a great will to teach, seeing specifically to children going to elementary school.

Gurilândia is marked by constant evolution both in the physical and educational parts. The philosophy embedded in the school’s educational work since its foundation was Montessorian.

In 1995 new ideas and questions arise, thus redirecting the school’s educational proposal, which from that point on started using as its basis the Constructivist philosophy.

The school nowadays constantly searches for new research and scientific studies that contibute to the understanding of children’s learning process, which as a consequence shows a glimpse of a more customized and efficient education.

Gurilândia intends to become an educational reference as a result of its commitment with world citizenship and for helping to develop in each student remarkable academic, ethical, social and multicultural qualities, besides a clear comprehension of the role it has to play in the construction of a more plural, more civilized, respectful and fair world.

Educate students for learning, educate students for life, turning them into citizens that are able to cause an impact on the future due to their performance, giving them high quality formal education, community experience and multicultural ethics and vision, which are essential to their formation as human beings who can live in a borderless world.


General Objectives Of Elementary School

• Emphasize the creation of an environment full of affection, which is a fundamental condition for learning;

• Invest in a social and moral environment that deals with values, thinking of the formation of citizens;

• Offer opportunities for playful activities, moving towards the making and building of pleasure.

• Promote the construction of reading and writing, thus revealing its social function.

• Involve the student in a multicultural and international environment;

• Enhance the logical and mathematical thinking by means of experience exchange with the environment;

• Establish contact with transversal themes (ethics, cultural diversity, environment, health, social issues);

• Put the student in touch with with the new technological transformations;

• Contribute to students having better quality in SOCIAL life in the 3rd millenium, by means of valuing citizenship feeling.

General Objectives Of Elementary Education

• Provide the construction of affective bonds and respect to individuality, by means of a harmonious working environment.

• Develop students that are confident in their cognitive, affective, ethical and social capabilities, so they are persistent in their search for knowledge and in the exercise of citizenship;

• Ensure the student sees himself/herself as someone who depends on the environment and, at the same time, is an agent for its transformation, thus actively contributing for its improvement;

• Build the student’s capacity, from the academic point of view, to face new challenges, in a way he/she can enhance his/her potential and make a stand in a critical, responsible and constructive way in different social situations;

• Involve the student in a multicultural and international environment;

• Plan, inside several knowledge areas, situations in which the student can learn how to use his/her knowledge as an instrument to understand reality, whether from the point of view of practical utility, or in the formation of thinking structures, that might allow him/her to express and communicate his/her ideas, profit from cultural productions, as well as analyze, interpret and transform the surrounding world.

• Provide conditions for the student to take possession of the contents, transforming them into his/her own knowledge;

• Ensure democratic social living together with emphasis on comprehension and on the construction of rules, thus developing in students attitudes that show respect, cooperation and solidarity;
