Gurilândia School is part of a select group of schools around the world that are concerned with preparing better children for the future. To this end, these schools follow the guidelines of a multicultural, interdisciplinary and universal program called Primary Years Programme (PYP).

The most significant aspect of the Primary Years Programme (PYP) is the work with the six universal transdisciplinary themes. These themes are about issues that have meaning and are important to us all. The programme offers a balance between learning about or through these areas, and learning beyond them. The six themes of worldwide importance create an interdisciplinary framework that allows students to “advance” beyond the limits of learning within thematic areas.

INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL PROGRAMME

  • Who we are
  • How it works
  • Where we are in time and space
  • How we organize ourselves
  • How we express ourselves
  • How we share the planet

The six interdisciplinary themes help teachers to develop a program of questioning and deepening on important ideas and requiring a high level of involvement on the part of students. These inquiries are substantial, in-depth and usually last several weeks.

As a final result of the 5 (five) years of elementary school, students who are at the end of the program, must present a research project, known as an Exhibition. This exhibition is an event to conclude a phase of the student’s education, with the function of synthesizing the essential elements of the program. It is an opportunity for students to transmit their knowledge and acquired values. The student receives a certificate of completion of the internationally recognized Primary Years Program (PYP), provided by the International Baccalaureate (IB), through Escola Gurilândia.
